International Politics Talks
The promotion of teaching and research in International Relations is a core part of BISA’s mandate. As such BISA engages in the following outreach activities to schools and colleges
- Specialist talks in Schools and Colleges on a range of subjects e.g. Obama and American Power, Poverty and Development in Africa, Debt and Financial Crises
- Introductions to the study of International Politics
- Invitations for students to participate in the BISA Annual Conference.
If you are interested in a member of BISA coming to talk to your school, please contact Sophie Harman Email: Sophie.Harman.1 [at] city.ac.uk
Open and Taster Days
Open and Taster Days are excellent ways to attract students to the study of International Politics. Students attending such days are often enthusiastic and unaware of the difference between studying Politics/International Relations/International Studies or often are not interested in the subject until they get in the door.
Preparation for such days can be time consuming and the content of these sessions vary. Please see below a selection of powerpoint slides and break out session ideas that have been trialled by BISA members and could be adopted to suit various introductory sessions.

Teacher Support
The relevance of International Studies to a range of higher education exams is becoming increasingly apparent. With exam boards offering A-level units subjects such as Global Political Issues and Development the research of BISA members is very much relevant to teaching in schools and colleges.
BISA is working with a range of teachers and exam boards to see how we can support teachers in the delivery of modules related to International Studies. Current ideas are: module specific teaching packs, online lectures available via the BISA site, specialist talks on iTunesU, and textbook development.
