The Association's current activities include:
- Publishing the Review of International Studies. This is one of the leading journals in the field of International Relations and is published four times a year, together with an extra special issue.
- Publishing a book series in collaboration with Cambridge University Press. This series - Cambridge Studies in International Relations - now includes over 100 titles.
- Producing a Website - http://www.bisa.ac.uk/ - which provides up to date information on future conferences, financial awards and research activities. It also provides links to other International Studies sites.
- Sponsoring research and Working Groups. BISA gives financial support to a number of working groups. Further information on these Groups can be obtained by following the link above.
- Organising an Annual Conference in mid-December that brings together the growing number of members of the Association including a significant number from overseas. Papers presented to a wide variety of panels reflect the diversity of interest of the members. Plenary speakers are distinguished in their field, whether as academics, diplomats, journalists or politicians.
- Making a range of small but targeted financial grants to help, in particular, postgraduate researchers and foreign visitors.
- Awarding four annual prizes each year, the best PhD thesis in the UK, the best article published in the Review of International Studies, the best book published in the field and a prize for excellence in teaching.
- Representing the interests of the discipline and the profession on the Funding Councils, Research Councils and other relevant bodies.
