The purpose of establishing BISA was to promote International Studies in the United Kingdom and elsewhere by advancing learning, teaching and research in all sub-fields. With this in mind, the Association established the Visiting Scholar’s Award scheme in 1996. This will support the attendance of two academics, non-UK in nationality and based outside the UK, at the annual conference. Support will include the conference day delegate package and upto £200 towards travel and/or accommodation on provision of reciepts as proof of expenditure/booking. Priority will be given to those who have not attended the BISA conference before; who come from countries where scholars face major financial hardships; to those who can explain how their attendance will assist the development of international studies in their own country; and according to the level of contribution to the conference. Award winners will be expected to attend the AGM, Plenary and other conference events at which they may be introduced to members more widely. Applications should be made by 25th February 2011 with the following information: 1 Applicant’s Name and institution/ email contact 2 Have you attended a BISA conference before? 3 100 word account of your research 4 100 word account of how this Award would help the development of international studies in your country 5 Title of conference paper 6 50 word paper abstract 7 Any other role(s) that will you play in the conference 8 200 word statement from a BISA member as to the value of your participation (and email address) 9 Electronic Signature and Dated by the BISA member sponsor 10 Electronic Signature and Dated by the applicant Late applications will be disqualified; no applicant may be supported for more than two conference awards.
