BISA-ISA joint workshops 2025: bursary information

Our inaugural joint workshops with ISA will be held at the Civic Centre in Newcastle Upon Tyne from Friday 10 October to Sunday 12 October 2025. All the information about the workshops can be found on the conference website.

We want to make these workshops as accessible as possible to BISA members and will therefore be offering ten travel and accommodation bursaries of £200.

Eligibility

  • You must be a BISA member (for at least two months before applying for the bursary, and your membership should continue for two months after the workshop).

  • If you are a member of both BISA and ISA, you can only receive one bursary from either BISA or ISA.

How do the bursaries work?

You’ll need to fill in an online bursary application form. Please ensure you have the following information to hand before starting the online application:

  • Name and institution (if you have one)/email address

  • Confirmation of current BISA membership

  • Are you in receipt of any grants/funding? If so, please provide a description

  • The name of the workshop you are participating in at the BISA-ISA workshops

  • A short description of what you hope to achieve through the workshops.

How to claim your bursary expenses

If you are awarded a bursary, you will need to submit a claim for your travel and/or accommodation expenses up to the bursary amount awarded. You will need to do this after the workshops. No money can be reimbursed beforehand.

Please complete an expense claim form and return it to the BISA office – office@bisa.ac.uk - by email with your receipts (clearly scanned images or jpeg are fine).

Claim forms must be supported by receipts that show VAT where applicable (including VAT registration number), details of items paid for, and the amount paid. Online booking receipts should be in the applicant’s name.

All claims will be made as promptly as possible after the conference by bank transfer. Where an international bank transfer charge is applicable, this will be taken from the bursary amount.

The awards are for travel and accommodation only. We do not reimburse mileage or parking unless prior approval is sought and granted by the Director. Where traveling using an Oyster card, please provide a downloaded statement with the relevant trips and costs highlighted.

Applications will close on Wednesday 30 July at 11.59pm (UK time).
