Working Group of the Year Prize
This prize, now in its third year, celebrates the achievements of the BISA working groups. Working groups are at the heart of BISA and directly contribute to the development of International Studies. All conveners are volunteers so we hope this new prize will help to recognise and celebrate their achievements.
The prize will be awarded to a working group that has contributed to raising awareness of international studies, and increasing the visibility and impact of BISA and/or its members through its activities, including support for early-career researchers in the last year (since June 2025).
Nominations and guidance
Nominees must be members of a BISA working group. To make a nomination you should complete our online prize nomination form, inclusive of a supporting statement up to 300 words. You should provide evidence of how the working group has promoted the activities of its members in research, teaching, and engagement with other audiences through events, e.g. conferences, workshops, and impact and engagement activities.
BISA is committed to building a diverse, inclusive and open research environment. Our prizes are no exception and reflect our inclusive environment where diverse talent can thrive regardless of age, disability, gender, race or background. We welcome applications from individuals currently underrepresented within the discipline of International Studies.
Nominations open on Tuesday 6 January 2026 and close on Tuesday 3 February at 11.59pm (UK time). Nominations made outside of this period will not be considered.
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion monitoring
After a nomination is submitted, nominators and nominees will be invited to complete a brief Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) monitoring form to help BISA improve the inclusivity and fairness of its prize processes; all responses will remain anonymous and will not impact prize decisions. We kindly encourage you to take a few moments to fill out the form, as your input is invaluable in supporting our commitment to equity and inclusivity.

"The Critical Studies on Terrorism (CST) Working Group has made significant contributions to advancing the field of security studies, with a particular emphasis on fostering critical perspectives and innovative approaches to understanding security in a global context. Through its initiatives, the CST Working Group has successfully promoted the research, teaching, and engagement activities of its members, establishing itself as a vital platform for collaboration and intellectual exchange. Of all the working groups of which I am a member, the CST conveners do the most to forge connections across stakeholders through organised events and regular communications."
