The Global Nuclear Order Working Group is delighted to invite scholars and practitioners to submit proposals for our annual conference, to be held online on 15 and 16 April. The conference aims to bring together contributions that interrogate existing thinking and propose new directions for the field. We welcome conceptual innovations, provocative questions, and reflections on emerging developments.

We are particularly interested in analyses that take stock of the current status quo and seek to develop or improve existing arms control and disarmament arrangements. We also invite contributions on education and teaching practices, exploring how pedagogy can support new thinking and advance the study and practice of nuclear politics.

Key topics and questions

  • Seeing nuclear politics differently: histories, concepts, frameworks, questions, and theories of change
  • Arms control and disarmament: taking stock and thinking through new directions
  • Pedagogy and education: how teaching practice and educational tools can enhance arms control and advance nuclear disarmament
  • Intersections between nuclear politics and other global challenges such as, but not limited to, new technologies, cyber security, and climate change.

We encourage scholars and practitioners to submit proposals. The conference provides a welcoming space where colleagues can share ambitious ideas in an intellectually stimulating environment. We would like to particularly encourage submissions from early career researchers and researchers based in the Global South.

Please submit a maximum 200-word paper abstract, along with institutional affiliation (if applicable) and confirmation of BISA membership status, to gno.group@bisa.ac.uk.

This year’s conference will include a Paper Prize for Early Career Researchers. The prize is offered in collaboration with the European Journal of International Security (EJIS). You can find more details about eligibility requirements here.
