Undergraduate development day

The BISA/BFPG Undergraduate Network’s first annual undergraduate development day is designed to support undergraduate students in developing their academic and professional skills, exploring postgraduate opportunities, and building networks within the International Studies community.

Through opportunities to hear directly from experts, connect with peers from universities across the country, and build lasting networks, the development day aims to empower you to navigate your studies and take your next steps within and beyond academia.

This event is currently open only to Undergraduate Network members. If you aren’t already a member you can join today for just £10.50.

Programme

9.30 – 10 am
Arrival and registration

10 – 10.15 am
Welcome and introduction -  Professor Helena Farrand Carrapico, Northumbria University.
Overview of the day and key takeaways for participants.

10.15 – 11.30 am
Session 1: Undergraduate research presentations - Professor Helena Farrand Carrapico and Dr Irem Cihan.
Student presentations showcasing original research in International Studies (Prize for best presentation)

If you would like to present your research during this session, please read the call for applications and complete the short application form by the deadline of Monday 20 April 2026. Non-presenting attendees will act as the audience.

Session 2: Thinking beyond your undergraduate degree- careers panel discussion

Exploring diverse career pathways in International Studies, featuring:

Practical advice on selecting programmes, securing funding, and navigating the application process. Panel discussion on the realities of postgraduate study, including academic expectations, workloads, and financial planning.
