Zoomside chat: military victory beyond the battlefield: outside wartime
Join the CMS working group for a panel discussion of Mirko Palestrino’s new book, Military Victory Beyond the Battlefield: Outside Wartime (Oxford University Press, 2025). The book rethinks hegemonic understandings of military victory as the outcome of war by focusing on the relationship between victory and time. Analysing exhibitions of military tattoos, war memorials, commemoration rituals, doctrine manuals, history textbooks, and video games, this book shows that, as soon as we stop looking for victory in the usual places, a plurality of wartimes comes to the surface and the assumption that victory ends war is cast into doubt. Chaired by Hannah Richards (University of Bristol), she and Mirko will be joined by Aggie Hirst (King’s College), Paul Higate (University of Bath), Jo Tidy (University of Sheffield) and Laura Mills (University of St Andrews) for what promises to be a fascinating discussion. Register in advance to listen to our panel contributors and join in the Q&A – we look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Registration will close two hours before the event begins
