We invite educators, scholars, and practitioners to submit proposals for presentations at our upcoming pedagogy workshop, 'Teaching ethics in dark times', which will explore innovative approaches to ethics education in an era marked by global instability, mass atrocity crimes, ecological collapse, political polarisation, and social upheaval. The workshop will take place on Wednesday 14 January 2026 via Zoom.

This workshop seeks to foster dialogue around the challenges and possibilities of teaching ethics in Politics/IR in higher education today. How do we prepare students to engage ethically with complex global issues such as climate justice, migration, war, inequality, and technological disruption? What pedagogical strategies can help cultivate critical thinking, empathy, and moral imagination across cultural and disciplinary boundaries?

We welcome proposals that address (but are not limited to) the following themes:

  • Interdisciplinary approaches to global ethics education
  • Decolonising ethics curricula and pedagogy
  • Teaching ethics through crisis narratives and case studies
  • Classroom strategies for fostering ethical dialogue and reflection
  • Ethics and digital technologies in global contexts

Presentations may take the form of short talks, interactive workshops, or roundtable discussions. We especially encourage submissions that share practical teaching experiences, classroom innovations, and collaborative projects.

Please submit a 250-word abstract and a short bio by Wednesday 15 October, 5pm (GMT) to ewpg.group@bisa.ac.uk. Accepted presenters will be notified by Wednesday 12 November, 5pm (GMT).
