Review of International Studies podcast - episode seven

This article was published on

BISA journal Review of International Studies (RIS) has released the seventh episode of its new podcast.

The aim of the podcast is to foster conversations about some of the most pressing issues of our time and to facilitate reflections on the latest developments in International Relations. The podcast is hosted by Associate Professor Sebastian Kaempf (The University of Queensland), who is also an editor of the journal.

October 31st 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the adoption of United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 1325, the first of ten resolutions which constitute the UN’s Women, Peace and Security (WPS) thematic agenda. It remains a significant international policy agenda that seeks to highlight the gendered nature of armed conflict, prevent or address the uniquely pernicious impacts conflict has upon women, and promote women’s roles in peace and security. In this episode, Professor Katrina Lee Koo (University of Queensland), talks to Dr Seb Kaempf, about her selection of key articles published in RIS about the 25th anniversary of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda. The articles chosen for this special collection help us to understand the fragmented and often erratic trajectories of the WPS agenda. In doing so the collection demonstrates the depth and richness of debate within feminist international studies while also advancing understanding of global politics within the wider scholarly community.  WPS has been a valuable case study for inquiries into norms, narratives, networks and institutions. The whole special collection is free to read until the end of January 2026.

Creating conversations across articles, identifying linkages, bringing together articles that speak to similar topics is the purpose of the RIS editor's selections, which are published every three to six months.
