Review of International Studies podcast - episode two
BISA journal Review of International Studies (RIS) has released the second episode of its new podcast.
The aim of the podcast is to foster conversations about some of the most pressing issues of our time and to facilitate reflections on the latest developments in International Relations. The podcast is hosted by Associate Professor Sebastian Kaempf (The University of Queensland), who is also an editor of the journal.
In episode two, Dr Benjamin Martill, one of the members of the RIS editorial team, talks to Dr Seb Kaempf about those RIS articles that for him speak to the relationship between theory and ideology. There has been a growing disciplinary interest in ideology within IR in recent years. This is at least in part the result of changes in the real world of international politics, including the gradual emergence of a more diffuse and de-centred international order with correspondingly higher levels of ideological heterogeneity, and the increasing challenge to the liberal international order posed by politicisation and the rise of populism. The conversation is based around Ben's editor's selection - also on theory/ideology.
Creating conversations across articles, identifying linkages, bringing together articles that speak to similar topics is the purpose of the RIS editor's selections, which are published every three to six months. We have made the articles in Ben's selection free to read until 11 June 2025, and recommend you read them alongside listening to the episode.
