With the summer right around the corner, we are slowly entering one of the quiet periods of recruitment for international organisations. And while the calls for interns, trainees, fellows and new colleagues dwindle down, it is also the time for graduation, celebration and the adjustment of parting ways with academia to begin the challenging pursuit of a career.
While not a period ripe with opportunities, it is a prudent time to revisit and polish up CVs, revisit draft letters of motivation and make sure that application packages are primed and ready. As always, I maintain several guide articles on my profile that you can freely access and get tips and insights on all elements of the job hunting process, so please check them out if you haven't already.
As something new, and at the suggestion of Marnix Middelburg, I will expand the monthly newsletter with a short segment on peer-sourced Podcast recommendations every month. As my work focuses extensively on political and security affairs in Somalia, my natural recommendation for a podcast episode has to be the International Crisis Groups' "The Horn" episode on the unprecedented security operations that manifested in Somalia last year. Omar Mahmood, an expert on Somalia, unravels the intricacies of the complex Somali security paradigm where a reinvigorated fight against the insurgent group has manifested through a popular uprising and a concerted government effort.
