We are excited to be launching an early-career prize for the best paper presented at BISA conference as part of a Critical Alternatives for World Politics panel. It is an opportunity to celebrate the research of early career IR academics pushing the boundaries of the discipline, in terms of methods, theory, subject-matter and beyond. Nominations for the prize will be sent through chairs for Critical Alternatives for World Politics-sponsored panels.

In order to be eligible for the Critical Alternatives for World Politics Early Career Paper Prize, papers will need to be:

  • Written by an early career or multiple early career academics - for this purpose we are using the BISA definition of PhD students and anyone five years post-PhD (with additional time depending on career breaks, maternity leave, long-term illness etc). We are not expecting nominating chairs to get in touch with potential nominees to ask if they satisfy these criteria, but if you can reasonably assume they do please nominate the author(s) and we will confirm eligibility.
  • The paper needs to be relevant to the Critical Alternatives for World Politics working group by 1) pushing the boundaries of the discipline in terms of methods, theory and/or subject-matter and 2) by adopting a critical approach.
  • The paper needs to demonstrate academic rigour and ethics.

Details for the nominating process have been sent to panel chairs and will be sent again a little before the conference.

If you are on one of the Critical Alternatives for World Politics, good luck!
