Early-Career Environment and Climate Politics Paper Prize

This award, sponsored by the Environment and Climate Politics Working Group, is being established to honour the best environment or climate politics postgraduate/early-career paper presented at the BISA Annual conference.
The award-winning paper will be peer-reviewed by the journal Environmental Politics.
We particularly encourage nominations from researchers based in the Global South.
Recipient criteria
- The award is open to papers presented at the BISA Annual in-person conference, launching in 2025. Papers need to have been presented on an ECP WG panel.
- The person nominated must either be a PhD or within three years of graduating at the time the paper was presented.
Prize
- The award comes with peer-review by the journal Environmental Politics with a prospect for publication.
- The winner will also publish a blog on the ECPWG website, introducing themselves and their research to the community.
Nomination/application instructions
- The deadline for nominations is 16 August 2025.
- Nominations must include contact information of the nominee and a completed version of the nominated article, anonymised for review. They should be submitted electronically, in the form of a Word document, to the working group email: ecp.group@bisa.ac.uk
- Self-nominations are strongly encouraged. Nominations may also be made by any BISA conference attendees.
Selection process
- The judging will be done by the Environment and Climate Politics Working Group convenors.
- Results of the competition will be announced in mid-October.
