Speed networking: opportunities in security studies

This BISA War Studies Working Group event, hosted at King’s College London (KCL), will highlight the diversity of research and career opportunities available to students of the wider Security Studies discipline. The event will bring together speakers from a range of subject and professional backgrounds, including intelligence, regional studies, the Civil Service, military, programme management and more. The format will be a speed-networking set up, followed by a casual networking reception offering coffee, tea, and pastries. 

Speakers

  • Think tank: Dani Prieto, RUSI – RUSI NextGen Programme and Membership Account Manager 

  • Civil service: Emma Lowden, FCDO - Assistant Private Secretary to the Director of Asia Pacific Directorate 

  • Military and Charity: Captain Dr Victoria Kinkaid – British Army Doctor and Co-Founder, FGM Education Project 

  • Research Organisation: Dr Francesca Ghiretti, RAND Europe - Director, RAND Europe China Initiative

  • Academic: Dr Paul McGarr, King's College London - Lecturer in Intelligence Studies

Bursaries 

As part of the funding we have received from BISA, we are offering six people bursaries of £50 to help with travel from non-London universities. We will ask them to email the WSWG account (wswg.group@bisa.ac.uk) with the following details for us to make a selection: Provide evidence of BISA membership, include name, university, and programme, and then maximum 300 words of why you like to attend the session including what you hope to gain from attendance.
