British International History Group Statement on History at Aston University

This article was published on

The BIHG notes with grave concern the recent proposals to eliminate History provision at Aston University. We urge the Vice-Chancellor and management at Aston to withdraw these proposals which would both close the programme and lead to the redundancy of the historians only recently appointed to the University. The proposal is not based on financial exigency and raises disturbing questions about job security and academic freedom.

We urge our members to sign the public petition in defence of History (and Languages) provision at Aston.
